Berlin Policeman Investigated for Assaulting Irish Pro-Palestinian Protester

Berlin: A German policeman is under investigation after allegedly punching an Irish pro-Palestinian protester twice in the face during a demonstration in Berlin. Police have confirmed that proceedings are ongoing regarding the officer's conduct on suspicion of assault.

According to Ghana News Agency, video footage of the incident, which occurred on Thursday, has sparked protests in Ireland, including one outside the German embassy in Dublin, where demonstrators condemned what they termed as police brutality in Berlin. The incident has garnered attention from Irish Prime Minister Miche¡l Martin, who expressed his deep concern over the matter. Additionally, the Irish embassy in Berlin is maintaining contact with local police authorities.

Irish Bloc Berlin, an Irish protest group, reported that the protester suffered a fractured nose and a broken arm during the arrest, necessitating surgery. In response to the incident, several criminal charges have been filed against the police officer involved.

The police have disclosed that the officer has faced online defamation and received death threats, prompting further investigations into these threats.
