(TAP) – Minister of National Defence Brahim Bertégi received on Thursday in Tunis Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces in Spain, Admiral General Teodoro Esteban López Calderón.

The two sides discussed the historical relations binding the two countries as well as the means to strengthen bilateral cooperation, a statement of the Defence Department reads.

The minister commended the level of cooperation between Tunisia and Spain in the fields of training and exchange of expertise. He called for strengthening cooperation to improve the operational capabilities of the military institution both bilaterally and within the framework of the “5+5 Defence Initiative”.

For his part, the Spanish Admiral expressed his country’s commitment to continue supporting Tunisia and its armed forces.

The meeting took place in the presence of the Spanish Ambassador to Tunisia.
