BFT winding-up: FGDB ready to compensate customers within 20 days

The Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund (FGDB) is ready to compensate the 7,500 customers and depositors of the Banque Franco Tunisienne (BFT) which is officially shutting down within 20 working days, FGDB Director General Jaafar Khatteche announced on Tuesday in Tunis.

“The FGDB with resources estimated at 600 million dinars is ready to compensate all the BFT’s customers and depositors within the legal deadlines and up to the ceiling of 60 thousand dinars for each depositor (33 customers),” he indicated during a press conference held at the BCT seat dedicated to the BFT’s winding-up.

For the due sums beyond this ceiling, the depositors will be compensated from the bank’s net winding-up proceeds according to the order of creditors provided for by the banking law, the official explained.

Regarding the bank’s employees, President of the Professional Association of Banks and Financial Establishments Mohamed Aguerbi pointed out that all the necessary legal steps have been taken to re-employ all the staff (67 people) in exercise on the date of the BFT’s cessation of payments within the Tunisian public and private banks and financial establishments while guaranteeing their material rights.

The volume of the BFT’s commitments is estimated at 279 million dinars, commitments that are subject to litigation).

Its cumulative losses are estimated at between 400 and 500 million dinars.
