Bill on Tunisia’s accession to Montreal Convention on air travel adopted

The House of People’s Representatives (HPR) Tuesday adopted the bill on Tunisia’s accession to the Montreal Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules for International Carriage by Air.

Tunisia adopted the convention on October 12, 1929 in Warsaw then ratified the protocols amending it in 1962 and 1985.

The Montreal Convention, inked in 1999, provides a unified and modern system in relation to airlines’ responsibility in international flights in the event of the death of or an injury sustained by a passenger or when luggage is delayed, goes missing or gets damaged.

Accession to the convention entitles Tunisian nationals to access modern services and ensures rapid, safe and cheaper transport of goods for exporters.

124 countries ratified the convention since its coming into effect in 2003, including 12 Arab countries.
