Tunisia: Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Tunisia, Wan Li, announced on Friday that the Bizerte bridge project is set to commence operations by mid-2027, with construction work making steady progress.
According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, nearly 14% of the bridge’s foundation construction has been completed. During an interview at TAP’s TV studio, Wan Li highlighted that the upcoming phase will concentrate on finalizing the bridge foundations and underwater infrastructure.
The Sichuan Road and Bridge Group, which secured the contract for the project through an international tender, is collaborating closely with Tunisian stakeholders to ensure the bridge’s completion in the latter half of 2027, as stated by the Chinese ambassador.
Drilling for the bridge’s foundation pillars began in July, with shipments of construction materials and equipment arriving in Tunisia in September and October, subsequently being delivered to the construction site for utilization. The new Bizerte bridge is deemed a significant project in Tunisia and an international model, utilizing high-quality Tunisian expertise with assistance from foreign experts.
Discussing future Chinese cooperation with Tunisia in air transport, Wan Li expressed China’s intention to strengthen its air transport fleet by potentially establishing a direct route between Beijing and Tunis. He noted that this proposal merits further study to enhance exchanges and boost tourism between the two nations.
