US Ambassador to Tunisia Donald Blome reaffirmed the US administration’s support to Tunisia in the field of border security, training and technical assistance.
Blome was speaking at a meeting Tuesday with Defence Minister Brahim Bertéji that discussed the Tunisian-US military cooperation and the reinforcement of the operational promptness of the military institution in various fields.
The US ambassador pledged to redouble efforts to further strengthen US support to Tunisia in this sector. He praised “the development of the capabilities of the military institution and the high level reached by the military cooperation between Tunisia and the United States.
The Defence Minister highlighted the importance of the Tunisian-US strategic cooperation “which is seeing a sustained development in the field of defence”.
He recalled the recent qualitative and quantitative progress achieved in the sectors of training, logistical support and equipment, intelligence as well as fixed and mobile electronic surveillance of land and maritime border areas.
Bartégi said the high-level cooperation between the two countries “has contributed to the improvement of the operational readiness of the military institution in the fight against terrorism and organised crime.”
