Blue crab enhancement project to enter production in Djerba and Sfax

A blue crab enhancement project will enter production in the coming weeks through two processing plants, one in Djerba and the other in Sfax, and an export outlet in Sfax by means of investments worth 7 million dinars, affirmed to TAP official in charge of the project follow-up at the interprofessional fish products group Karim Hammami.

The project’s production capacity will is estimated at 5 to 20 tonnes per day. The product will be fully exported to Asian countries where it will be re-processed by a Korean partner of the project and re-exported from Korea to the U.S. market.

The project, carried out by a Turkish investor, is expected to generate 300 permanent jobs and 5 thousand indirect jobs.

This species, in general, has proliferated vertiginously in the recent years in the Gulf of Gabes.

Rich in protein, the blue crab can weigh up to 500 g.
