Bono PURC Addresses Over 700 Consumer Complaints in First Half of 2025

Sunyani: The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) in the Bono Region addressed a significant volume of consumer issues, receiving 752 complaints from power consumers between January and June 2025. This information was disclosed by Ms. Julia Antwi, the Bono Regional Public Relations Officer of the commission.

According to Ghana News Agency, Ms. Antwi reported that the commission successfully resolved 724 complaints against the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) and managed to address 46 complaints against Ghana Water Limited. The commission also received two complaints from utility service providers concerning consumers, with billing adjustments totaling GHC43,282.72.

Ms. Antwi highlighted that, through the commission's intervention, NEDCo replaced six transformers and 95 electricity poles to improve power stability in certain communities. She elaborated that the Commission, in partnership with various Municipal and District Assemblies, is conducting an initiative to address utility provision challenges to ensure improved service delivery.

The initiative, known as 'PURC at Your District,' aligns with the office's quarterly outreach activities, aiming to identify and address specific challenges faced by utility consumers. Ms. Antwi noted that the initiative has so far been extended to Sunyani East and West, Berekum East and Dormaa Central Municipalities, as well as Dormaa East District, with most issues relating to meter problems, low voltages, and irregular water supply.
