CaAd Essebsi meets US Congressional delegation

President Beji CaAd Essebsi received, on Tuesday at Carthage Palace, a delegation from the US House of Representatives led by Rodney Frelinghuysen, chairman of the House Appropriation Committee.

The US official spoke of the historical relations between Tunisia and the United States of America, highlighting the interest taken by the US congress in the success of the Tunisian democratic experience.

He reiterated the need to support Tunisia and back its efforts to meet the many challenges it faces, according to a statement by the Presidency of the Republic.

Rodney Frelinghuysen also stressed the importance of strengthening co-operation between the two countries, particularly in the fight against terrorism, cultural and academic exchanges and increased bilateral visits.

He highlighted the determination of the US delegation to work so that the United States would maintain its commitment to support Tunisia at the same level as in previous years.

For his part, President CaAd Essebsi said this visit reflects the deep relations of friendship and co-operation binding the two countries.

He welcomed the development of the Tunisian-US partnership in several fields in recent years, saying it has enabled Tunisia to make progress in counter-terrorism and border surveillance.

Tunisia is determined to move forward on the path of democratic building despite the many challenges facing the country, especially in the areas of employment, youth and development, he pointed out.

CaAd Essebsi expressed his wish to see the United States continue supporting Tunisia in the next period.
