Cabinet meeting approves series of bills

A series of bills were approved at a Cabinet meeting held Friday at the Government Palace in Kasbah.

Government spokesperson Iyad Dahmani said the bills adopted are as follows:

– Bill amending and supplementing certain provisions of the Code of Decorations. This project foresees the creation of a new decoration: the insignia of fidelity and sacrifice to the martyrs of the security and military institutions,

– Bill to approve a guarantee contract between the Tunisian Government and the European Investment Bank (EIB) relating to the credit granted to the National Sanitation Board (ONAS) to contribute to financing the programme to combat pollution in the Mediterranean Sea,

– Draft law approving a guarantee contract between the Tunisian government and the European Investment Bank (EIB) relating to the credit granted to the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) to contribute to financing of the electricity transmission project,

– Draft law amending the hydrocarbons code promulgated under Law n 1999-93,

– Draft law on the seawater desalination agreements in Zarat, governorate of Gabes, in accordance with the credit agreement signed on November 29, 2016 between the Government of Tunisia and the German Development Bank (KFW).

Dahmani also said the Cabinet meeting reviewed Circular No. 2017-04 of 16 January 2017, which prohibits public officials from making statements to the media without prior authorisation from their immediate superiors.

In this regard, the Government spokesperson wished to clarify that this circular aims at organising administrative work and defining responsibilities and has no intention of imposing restrictions on freedom of expression or on the right to access information.
