The Cabinet meeting was held Thursday at the Palace of Carthage under the chairmanship of President Kais Saied and discussed the financial situation of the country and solutions to ensure the financing of the state budget and fundamental financial balances.
The meeting approved a draft decree adopting the loan agreement signed on July 16, 2021, between Tunisia and the African Development Bank to finance the Economic Recovery and Social Inclusion Support Programme.
It also reviewed draft order amending the order No. 1916, dated October 9, 1995, on the operating licenses of cigarette kiosks.
The meeting particularly emphasised the need to implement an urgent economic recovery programme and to launch structural economic reforms, in the context of a genuine partnership with social partners.
He discussed issues relating to the intensification of control of distribution channels, in order to thwart speculation and monopoly practices, control prices and direct the subsidy to those in need, as well as fight against smuggling and corruption.
The Cabinet meeting also stressed the importance of encouraging the implementation of renewable energy projects and to initiate appropriate legislative reforms to boost domestic and foreign investment, regain the confidence of international partners. It also highlighted the key role of the Diaspora in strengthening the national development effort.
The President of the Republic emphasised the importance of revaluing the social role of the State, to anchor the culture of work, to promote austerity and rationalise public spending and imports, and encourage the consumption of Tunisian products.
