Caid Essebsi affirms Tunisia’s support for AU action as he meets AU President

President Beji Caid Essebsi met, Wednesday in Abidjan, on the sidelines of his participation in the 5th Africa-Europe Summit, with Guinean President Alpha Conde, Chairperson of the African Union (AU).

After the meeting, Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui told TAP the President of the Republic affirmed Tunisia’s commitment to support the AU’s initiatives and its reforms to make the Union’s action in the service of countries of the continent more efficient.

Caid Essebsi also empasised the interest that Tunisia attaches to the African dimension of its policy, particularly through its diplomacy and the intensification of its co-operation with the majority of countries on the continent, said Jhinaoui.

For his part, President Conde assured Tunisia of Guinea’s support for its request in June 2017 to obtain observer status within the organisation of The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
