Caid Essebsi calls to preserve legal and historical status of Al Quds and to respect UN resolutions

President Beji Caid Essebsi had a telephone conversation Tuesday with his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas about the “dramatic situation” faced by the Palestinian people in the face of Israeli occupation aggression coinciding with the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Nakba.

Caid Essebsi reiterated Tunisia’s steadfast position and of principle in favour the rights of the Palestinian people. He stressed the need to preserve the legal and historical status of the city of Al Quds and to stick to the relevant UN resolutions, and the invalidity of any other action against these resolutions.

The President of the Republic called on the international community to fully assume its role and act urgently to stop the crimes and acts of torture committed against unarmed civilians and to provide the necessary international protection for Palestinians. He stressed the need to compel Israel to respect the choice of peace and international legality and to face all attempts to abort the process of a peaceful, just and comprehensive settlement, the only way to restore security and security and stability in the region.

He expressed his deep condolences to President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian people for the many victims killed by Israel, hailing the fight of an unarmed people and their commitment to valiantly defending their legitimate rights to recover their lands and sacred symbols and build an independent state with Al Quds as capital.

For his part, Mahmoud Abbas expressed his deep consideration to the Head of State for his solidarity in these painful circumstances.

He praised Tunisia’s continued support to the Palestinian people.
