Caid Essebsi decorates IOC President with Grand Cordon of National Merit in Sport

– President Beji Caid Essebsi, on Saturday, decorated the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach with the insignia of the Grand Cordon of the Order of National Merit and President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Lassana Palenfo with the insignia of the Commander.

Speaking to reporters, the President of IOC expressed the International Olympic Committee’s solidarity with Tunisia after the terrorist attacks that targeted the country, affirming the key role of sport in anchoring noble values among youth and in the fight against extremism and violence.

The ceremony was attended by Minister of Youth and Sports Maher Ben Dhia, President of the Tunisian National Olympic Committee (TNOC) Mehrez Boussayene and vice-presidents Fethi Hachicha and Ali Benzarti, the Presidency said in a press release.

The President of IOC will attend on Saturday afternoon the laying of the foundation stone of TNOC new headquarters at El Menzah national sports’ city.

He will also kick-start the half-marathon of “Club Sportif de la Garde Nationale ” on Sunday
