Caid Essebsi meets with Prime Minister

President Beji Caid Essebsi met, Thursday at Carthage Palace, with Prime Minister Youssef Chahed.

The meeting focused on the country’s overall security, economic and social situation.

Wednesday’s knife attack on two police officers was also discussed at the meeting.

One of the two victims, Major Riadh Barrouta, succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning.

Quoted in a statement of the Presidency of the Republic, Youssef Chahed said the head of state insisted on the need to provide all the necessary support to the martyr’s family and give top priority to the review of the draft law on the repression of attacks against armed forces.

In this regard, President Caid Essebsi called on the armed and security forces to be vigilant in their war on terrorism.

In addition, the meeting was an opportunity to review the government’s action in the next period, particularly measures designed to control prices, preserve citizens’ purchasing power and to contain the scourge of smuggling.
