Carnival of Tunisia for Universal Music next September 19-24

Tunisia will host on September 19-24 the Carnival of Tunisia for Universal Music, an international cultural and musical event that will see the participation of ten countries representing the five continents.

The first edition is named in the memory of Alfred Nobel who bequeathed all of his fortune to institute the Nobel Peace Prize. The upcoming editions will be named after global icons of peace, such as Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi.

The event will be organised by the Communication and Marketing Techniques Agency (French: ATCM) which specialises in sociocultural communication, in partnership with Tunisian civil society.

The organising committee, chaired by Abdelfattah Idoudi, said in a press release the carnival is aimed to foster the values of fraternity and peace and closeness between peoples.

The seaside resort of Hammamet will be a symbolic site for the opening on September 21 of this large-scale event, concurrently with the observance of International Day of Peace.

The carnival would then move to the cities of Kairouan, Monastir and Tunis while Sousse will host the closing event. Topping the agenda of the carnival are artistic performances, symposiums, workshops and exhibitions with the participation of music bands representing all the governorates.

Organisers want to make of this carnival an ideal opportunity for “cultural exchanges and direct civilisational and economic dialogue ” and ” to promote Tunisia’s image” as a cultural beacon to advocate a universal charter. This charter will lay the foundations for “peace among all peoples” and embody ” civil cultural diplomacy that will promote fruitful and positive international cooperation,” reads the press release.

A news conference will be held soon in Tunis to further shed light on the agenda and goals of this event.
