“Carthage” docks at port of Zarzis from Marseille after 12-hour delay

The “Carthage” ship, on Wednesday, docked at the commercial port of Zarzis, from Marseille (France), in the first trip of 11 scheduled for this port during this summer for Tunisians abroad from the ports of Marseille and Genoa.
This liner which was blocked for more than 12 hours from Marseille, carried in its first trip 1205 travelers and 526 cars that were welcomed by a staff inside the port to complete all procedures for passage either for pedestrians or for cars, said director of the commercial port of Zarzis, Raslen Mahmoudi.
The Tunisian Shipping Company (CTN) said last Monday the delay in the Carthage ship’s departure from the port of Marseille from Monday to Tuesday at 10 am was due to a sit-in observed by some travelers accompanied by their trucks at the door of the ship’s dump, in protest against the decision to deny them entry in the ship over presenting false statements on 20 trucks that do not meet the criteria of registered vehicles (length and height).
The CTN said it will proceed with the necessary legal action, calling on travelers to respect the rules and procedures in place to avoid delays.
Many travelers underwent rapid tests as soon as they get off the ship, while a space has been arranged within the port to perform the tests to those who did not do so on board the ship, with the implementation of a health protocol ensuring social distancing, wearing masks and use of disinfectants, according to Mahmoudi.
Minister of Transport Moez Chakchouk stressed the need to promote the best conditions for the return of Tunisians abroad to their homeland and put an end to all these problems.
He stressed the importance of strengthening the shipping lines to the port of Zarzis and improving the conditions of travel of Tunisians abroad to their country during the summer season or throughout the year.
