President Beji CaA�d Essebsi received, on Wednesday at Carthage Palace, former French Minister of Justice and former MEP Christiane Taubira, who is visiting Tunisia on the celebration of International Women’s Day.
Christiane Taubira expressed her satisfaction at the distinguished level of bilateral co-operation, expressing her admiration for the achievements made in Tunisia on the road to democratic construction as well as for the contribution of Tunisian women to this process.
The former justice minister welcomed the efforts made in Tunisia to consolidate and further uphold the rights of women as partners in society.
She added that her visit to Tunisia is a message of support for Tunisian women’s activism in favour of a more sustained presence in the different fields and a more efficient contribution to the development of society.
The President of the Republic, for his part, spoke of the main difficulties hindering the democratic process in Tunisia, stressing the importance of the role of women and young people.
