Tamale: Thousands of Catholic faithful have climaxed the maiden Provincial Rosary Congress in Tamale with a Mass and prayers for the wellbeing of all people. The three-day Rosary Congress, held under the theme ‘The Holy Rosary: A Path to Jubilee Grace’, was organized by the Catholic Archdiocese of Tamale in collaboration with the Global Rosary Network.
According to Ghana News Agency, the event was attended by believers from across the northern part of the country, including the Tamale Archdiocese, Navrongo-Bolgatanga, Wa, Damongo, and Yendi Dioceses. The Congress featured a solemn procession with the Blessed Sacrament and the Statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary from Our Lady of Annunciation (OLA) Cathedral, Tamale, through the Holy Door to the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, accompanied by the praying of the Holy Rosary and Marian hymns.
The Climax Mass was led by the Most Reverend Philip Naameh, Metropolitan Archbishop of Tamale, and co-celebrated by Most Reverend Peter Paul Angkyier, Bishop of Damongo, Most Reverend Matthew Yitiereh, Bishop of Yendi, and Most Reverend Francis Bomansaan, Bishop of Wa, along with over 60 priests. This Rosary Congress marked a significant milestone in the Church’s mission to deepen Marian devotion, foster unity among the dioceses, and seek the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary for peace in conflict-affected towns such as Bawku and Gbinyiri.
Prayers were also offered for President John Dramani Mahama, the Government, and the people of Ghana as part of the activities of the Jubilee Year of Hope (2025), declared by the late Pope Francis. Most Rev Naameh, in his sermon, expressed gratitude to God for the Congress’s success and the spiritual transformation it inspired among Catholics. He highlighted the journey’s culmination with a sense of divine presence and thanked Rev Father David Obeng Paintsil, Founder and Spiritual Director of Global Rosary Network, for initiating the Rosary Congress.
Most Rev Naameh emphasized the support from the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference and the Congress’s importance as the Church prepares for the Jubilee Year. He praised all dioceses and guests for their dedication and participation throughout the Congress. Rev Father Paintsil’s divine inspiration during Eucharistic Adoration led to the conception of the Rosary Congress, following the first event held in Poland in 1979 and later in the United States.
The success of the event in Tamale is set to be mirrored in Accra from October 16 to 18 for Dioceses in the southern zone, and in Kumasi from October 30 to November 01 for Dioceses in the middle zone.
