Central Tongu MP Advocates Promotion of Youth in Agriculture at Dakar Forum

Dakar: Mr Alexander Roosevelt Hotordze, Member of Parliament for Central Tongu, has joined fellow African legislators in Dakar, Senegal, to deliberate on ways to strengthen youth involvement in agriculture and promote food security on the continent.

According to Ghana News Agency, the meeting was organised under the African Food Systems Parliamentary Network (AFSPaN), bringing together lawmakers to share ideas and push for policies that advance sustainable food production across Africa. Mr Hotordze emphasized that his participation in the forum would bolster greater support for farmers in Central Tongu and across Ghana.

He noted that his constituency had already taken practical steps towards boosting production. "Just last month, working with our District Chief Executive, we secured over 1,200 bags of fertilizer for distribution across the constituency. This is a step toward strengthening local food production," he said.

The MP reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Central Tongu plays its part in Ghana's food security and development agenda, stressing that youth participation in agriculture was vital for the country's future. The Central Tongu District has, over the years, been one of the foremost agricultural hubs in the country and is known for cassava, rice, maize, tomatoes, and pepper cultivation amongst others.
