Accra: Mr Mohammed Samara, the Chief Executive Officer of Meridian Port Services (MPS), has emphasized the need for greater reliance on the Customs' risk engine to streamline cargo clearance processes and reduce the current 100% inspection rate at Terminal 3. According to Ghana News Agency, during the company's Customer Service Week celebrations, Mr Samara highlighted the high level of inspections currently required and advocated for a shift towards utilizing the risk engine more efficiently. This technology is designed to differentiate between risky and non-risky trade, allowing for faster processing of the latter. He pointed out that this method is standard practice in other global ports and should be adopted to improve efficiency at MPS. Mr Samara also discussed the broader customer experience, noting that it is shaped by interactions not only with MPS and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority but also with other statutory services involved in the logistics chain. He urged these stakeholders to adopt a more modern approach to business to keep pace with evolving trade and logistics expectations. In his appeal to stakeholders, Mr Samara called for improvements in the cargo clearance process to enhance overall efficiency. He also reminded MPS customers about the importance of adhering to the terminal's truck appointment system to prevent delays and facilitate smoother operations. Highlighting the importance of feedback, the MPS CEO stressed that effective collaboration and constructive feedback are crucial for improving service delivery. He noted that service quality should be measured and evaluated through direct forums with customers, which provide insights into their challenges and expectations. During the forum, customers voiced concerns about operational issues at MPS. Mr Steen Larsen, the Chief Financial Officer, responded by assuring that these challenges would be addressed promptly to improve service delivery and customer satisfaction.
