Officially leaving the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE), Chafik Sarsar stressed on Monday the ability of ISIE to organise the municipal elections on the date scheduled for December 17 “in view of the many competences at its disposal.”

At a press conference, Sarsar affirmed that he and the other two other resigned members - Vice-President Mourad Ben Mouelli and member Lamia Zargouni had continued to discharge their duties and attend ISIE meetings in compliance with the decision issued by its council on 17, 2017.

For his part, Mourad Ben Mouelli said that the resignation decision had been made after ensuring that all the conditions had been met to ensure the continuity of the authority’s work and continue the electoral process.

Taking the floor, Lamia Zargouni stressed during this press conference attended by representatives of constitutional authorities and the civil society, the participatory nature of the work of ISIE which has for three years collaborated with national, regional and international organisations, the civil society and media institutions.
