Chahed commits to eradicating rudimentary dwellings by end of 2019

Prime Minister Youssef Chahed on Tuesday pledged to eradicate rudimentary housing by the end of 2019 and to allow each citizen belonging to the middle class to benefit from the “first housing” programme.

He said, in this regard, that a budget of 200 million dinars was allocated to support this new government programme.

Speaking at the opening of the national conference on “Reform of the Social Security System: from care to rights”, that the government is working for a comprehensive reform of the various social security systems and the extension of the social coverage system to include vulnerable occupational groups, in particular workers in the fisheries sector and informal sectors.

Among the planned structural reforms, the Prime Minister placed emphasis on the reform of the social welfare programme (involving about 900 thousand families) through its modernisation, application of the principles of good governance in the management of aid and the establishment of a new unified legal and institutional framework.

Chahed, on the other hand, announced the launch of the “Dignity Contract programme during this quarter, adding that 25 thousand young university graduates will benefit from this programme in a first stage.
