Chahed determined to counter corruption

Prime Minster Youssef Chahed affirmed his Cabinet’s commitment to carry on combating corruption, adding that justice is still an essential component of this open war.

Raising the justice ministry’s budget for the first time and the judges’ wages and the mobilisation of funds for the Financial Judicial Division are as many indications testifying to the willingness to counter this scourge, Chahed said at the end of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) plenary session dedicated to the Government Declaration on the draft 2018 State Budget and Finance Law.

It is not possible at this time to speak about corruption cases given the secrecy of investigation, Chahed specified in reply to MPs’ questions, assuring that these cases had been brought before justice.

Besides, Chahed pointed out that the government has honoured its commitments to the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) to organize municipal elections in due time.

The government had set up administrative courts in regions and mobilised the necessary funds for the success of these elections, he added.

In another connection, the PM said that the draft 2018 State Budget includes 3,000 recruitments involving substitute teachers.
