Chairman of Tunisia-Germany friendship group to visit Germany to discuss Berlin terrorist attack

MP and Chairman of the Tunisia-Germany friendship group Hatem Ferjani will fly this weekend for Germany to discuss with German officials and parliamentarians the Berlin terrorist attack and its repercussions on The Tunisian community in this country.

“It is also necessary to correct the negative image conveyed on Tunisia as a terrorism-exporting country, he told TAP on Thursday after a meeting of the Tunisia-Germany Parliamentary friendship group, held in the presence of German ambassador in Tunis, Andreas Reinicke and many MPs

A truck had ploughed into a Christmas market in Berlin on December 19, 2016, leaving 12 dead and 48 wounded.

Tunisian Anis Amri is the alleged perpetrator of the terrorist attack, according to German authorities who said they found an identity document of the suspect in the truck used in the attack.

Anis Amri was killed on December 23 in a shootout in Italy.

During the meeting of the parliamentary friendship group, Andreas Reinicke affirmed that the Berlin attack could in no way jeopardize Tunisian-German relations, recalling, in this connection, the signing of a number of agreements between the two countries, in the aftermath of the attack.

According to Ferjani, the ambassador also indicated the German authorities have rejected many asylum applications filed by some Tunisian nationals, noting that they are currently examining their cases.

Hatem Ferjani also said he will have a meeting this weekend with the Consul General of Tunisia in Germany to reconsider the accusations made by the German authorities against the Tunisian administration regarded as soft on the repatriation of Anis Amri before he committed the attack.
