Tunisia: Tunisia’s rich cultural, civilisational, and natural heritage has made it an increasingly popular destination among Chinese tourists, particularly in recent years following the inclusion of nine Tunisian sites on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Tunisia Wan Li said on Friday.
According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, in an interview conducted at the agency’s TV studio, the ambassador stated that China seeks to further scale up bilateral cooperation with Tunisia in the tourism sector. This could be achieved through a targeted strategy to attract Chinese tourists by diversifying Tunisia’s tourism offerings and developing a Chinese-language digital tourism guide to facilitate communication and enhance services between the two countries.
Wan Li emphasized the necessity of establishing an advanced electronic payment infrastructure to benefit Chinese visitors. He noted that Tunisia and China share common civilisational, cultural, and human values, which form a solid foundation for cooperation across various sectors. Despite the geographical distance, Chinese tourists today regard Tunisia as one of the finest tourist destinations.
Efforts are currently underway to develop tourism links between the two countries, including the possible launch of direct flights in coordination with relevant authorities, notably the Tunisian National Tourist Office (ONTT). The ONTT has been highly active in China through its participation in various international tourism fairs.
The ambassador further highlighted opportunities for cultural exchange, experience sharing, and cooperation, drawing on the depth and diversity of both countries’ cultural and human heritage. He pointed to Tunisia’s ancient civilisation as an asset to “capitalise on.”
Wan Li recalled China’s participation as Guest of Honour at the 39th Tunis International Book Fair last April. The event enabled numerous Chinese and Tunisian researchers to engage in fruitful meetings and in-depth discussions in the fields of culture, education, and civilisation, contributing to fostering the bonds of friendship between the two countries and peoples.
In this context, the Chinese travel platform Tongcheng Travel recently ranked Tunisia first among the safest and most attractive destinations for Chinese tourists.
