Accra: The Chinese community in Ghana has extended a generous hand to thousands of individuals displaced by the recent Gbinyiri conflict in the Savannah Region by donating relief items valued at over GH?1 million. The conflict, which tragically claimed lives and displaced more than 40,000 people, prompted this substantial humanitarian response.

According to Ghana News Agency, the donated items included essential supplies such as bags of rice, boxes of tomato paste, blankets, 10,000-liter water tanks, buckets, boxes of mosquito coils, bags of washing powder, cartons of soap, sanitary pads, and cartons of Kivo Gari Mix. Mr. Stephen Shun, General Secretary of the Chinese Community in Ghana, handed over these items to the Savannah Regional Minister at Damongo for distribution to the affected individuals.

Mr. Shun conveyed the Chinese community's heartfelt sympathies to the victims and reaffirmed China's solidarity with Ghana. He explained that this support was mobilized through a fundraising effort spearheaded by Chinese community leaders, with guidance from the Ghana-China Friendship Association. Emphasizing the symbolic importance of the gesture, Mr. Shun stated, "This humble contribution carries with it the deep concern of the Chinese community. It is not merely material aid; it is a promise that we will stand with you." He also noted that the gesture coincided with the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ghana and China.

Savannah Regional Minister, Mr. Salisu Be-Awuribe, who received the items, praised the initiative as both timely and historic, highlighting that China was the first to offer support to the region in the aftermath of the conflict. He remarked, "It is said in our language that your best friend is determined not at the time of your merrymaking, but at the time of your difficulty. This humble, generous gesture speaks volumes." Mr. Be-Awuribe assured the benefactors that the items would be distributed effectively to the communities impacted in the Bole and Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Districts. He also extended an invitation to Chinese businesses to explore investment opportunities in the region, suggesting that such collaborations could lead to mutually beneficial partnerships for both Ghana and China.
