118 fires broke out across the country between June 1 and July 26, said Civil Protection Spokesperson Moez Triaa.

These fires destroyed 2,951 hectares, Triaa told TAP on Wednesday, stressing that this figure will probably go up as fires continue to spread throughout the country.

These areas will be marked out later in coordination with the General Directorate of Forests, he added.

According to Triaa, the number of fires increased compared to the same period in 2021. 88 fires broke out in an area of 679 hectares.

Regarding agricultural crops, the spokesman said that 264 fires ravaged 576 hectares between June 1 and July 26. In 2021, 217 fires damaged 520 hectares during the same period.

Last week, fires were recorded in various forests in the country including 7 fires which broke out, Tuesday, in five governorates (Siliana, Beja, Jendouba, Kef and Kairouan).
