Representatives of socialist and leftist parties, as well as civil society activists and national organizations, Sunday, called for speeding up trial in the case of assassination of politician, lawyer and Secretary General of the Democratic Patriots’ Unified Party (Al Watad) Chokri Belaid.
Demonstrators, who gathered Sunday outside Belaid’s house, on the 9th Anniversary of his assassination, accused the judiciary of concealing the truth about the circumstances of his murder as well of Mohamed Brahmi’s, Secretary General of the “Popular Current” Party, denouncing “intentional slowness in investigating the case.
They held banners castigating the slowness of the procedures and shouting slogans against Ennahdha movement leader Rached Ghannouchi. This political formation is accused of being implicated in the assassination of Belaid, which is denied by the movement.
Protesters also criticised what they called the “judicial system of the former justice minister during the Troika period in reference to Noureddine Bhiri”. This system could play a key role in uncovering the truth about the assassinations,” they said.
