Accra: As part of the International Women's Day Celebration, the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has reaffirmed its commitment to creating equal opportunities for women cocoa farmers for national growth. According to Ghana News Agency, COCOBOD emphasized its recognition of the vital contributions women make across the cocoa value chain. In a statement, the organization celebrated the achievements of women in the industry and highlighted the importance of this year's theme, 'Accelerate Action.' The theme aligns with COCOBOD's initiatives to empower women in research, cocoa farming, quality assurance, marketing, processing, and policymaking, ensuring their full participation in the growth and sustainability of Ghana's cocoa sector. The organization acknowledged the essential roles women play in the cocoa industry and the challenges they face, such as limited access to land, financing, and extension services. COCOBOD is dedicated to addressing these issues and creating equal opportunities for women in cocoa. COC OBOD continues to implement strategic initiatives to enhance women's participation and success in the industry. These initiatives include capacity-building programs focused on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), financial literacy, and business management. COCOBOD also aims to ensure access to farm inputs, support value addition by encouraging women in cocoa processing and chocolate production, and promote climate-smart agricultural techniques for sustainable farming. COCOBOD called on relevant agencies, development partners, private sector actors, and civil society organizations to collaborate in closing the gender gap in the cocoa industry, emphasizing the need for a more inclusive sector to ensure long-term sustainability and economic prosperity for all.
