Combating COVID-19: Saied-Mattarella phone talk

(TAP) – President Kais Saied spoke Friday by phone with his Italian counterpart Sergio Matarella.

The conversation focused on the follow-up of President Saied’s visit to Italy on June 16 and 17 and “its positive impact on bilateral relations which will be materialised in the coming days,” reads a statement of the Presidency of the Republic.

Kais Saied expressed his warm thanks to Italy, its leadership and its people for its support to Tunisia in its fight against the pandemic, by donating medical materials and equipment, part of which was received in the morning.

The Italian President affirmed that his country will not forget Tunisia’s support during the health crisis that Italy experienced last year. He recalled President Saied’s decision to send a delegation of medical and paramedical staff to Italy.

Italy, he added, will spare no effort to help Tunisia. Large doses of anti-covid vaccines will be sent under an agreement to be signed next week between the Italian Ministry of Health and one of the manufacturers of these vaccines, he said.

Kais Saied welcomed the position of the Italian president, noting that this initiative reflects, once again, the strength of the relations between the two countries and their common aspiration for a better future and wider prospects and opportunities for cooperation and rapprochement.
