Consultations underway between UGTT and government on cabinet reshufle (Tahri)

Informal consultations are underway between the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) and advisors to the Prime Minister regarding a cabinet reshuffle, UGTT Official Spokesperson Sami Tahri said Thursday.

The union, that had previously called for carrying out consultations for over three months, is committed to restructure the government and to carry out a cabinet reshuffle notably following the deadlock observed at the level of certain ministries, he told TAP on the sidelines of the works of the UGTT’s national administrative commission in Hammamet.

The administrative commission will further examine a set of urgent issues including the increase in the fuel’s prices, he recalled.

In this respect, the union called for taking the necessary measures to stop the devaluation of the Tunisian dinar, limit the soaring prices, review the guaranteed minimum inter-occupational wage (SMIG) in order to help the limited-income category, he pointed out.

The decision to increase the fuel’s prices is a violation of the agreement concluded between the government and the union that provides for the need to control prices, he noted.

All measures that will result from the increase of the fuel’s prices, such as an increase in the prices of public transportation, is a red line, he affirmed.
