Conversion of Tunisian debts into development projects hindered by several problems (Fin Min)

“The lack of technical support, the delay recorded in the adoption of the 2016-2020 development plan and the land problems are the main obstacles hindering the achievement of projects as part of the Tunisian debts’ conversion into development projects by France, Finance Minister Lamia Zribi said.

Speeding up materialisation of these projects were at heat of her meeting with France’s Economy and Finance Minister Michel Sapin, on the fringes of the ministerial meeting of the 5+5 Finance Dialogue held January 24-25 in Paris

We should proceed in the preparation of projects to be able to make the most of funds, affirmed Zribi to TAP on the sidelines of the meeting.

The finance minister, who also met with French Development Agency (AFD) Director-General Remy Rioux, pointed out that the AFD will provide a budget support to Tunisia to reform the agriculture sector and revamp public enterprises and governance.

The minister’s visit in Paris is part of the first ministerial meeting of the 5+5 Finance Dialogue. Four themes were on the agenda of the meeting, in this case: Financial transparency, taxation, customs and funding of environmental projects.

We agreed to further co-ordinate in terms of sharing information and experiences and support to training, she specified, underlining that Tunisia called for strengthening its capacities in these fields.

We will need support and an upgrading of our administration to be able to integrate effectively and efficiently in this information sharing, she added.

The 5+5 dialogue is a consultation framework between western Mediterranean countries, in this case Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Malta and Maghreb Arab Union countries (Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia).
