The number of travellers placed in mandatory quarantine is estimated at 4,500 people, 80pc of whom have completed the quarantine period in centres set up since August 25, said chairman of the national quarantine committee at the Health Ministry Mohamed Rabhi.
In a statement to TAP Monday, Rabhi said the average number of incoming passengers affected by mandatory quarantine has declined to between 60 and 70 people per day, while it was more than 100 people by the end of August.
The reduction of the quarantine period to 7 days instead of 10 days, is part of an assessment of the Scientific Committee to Combat Coronavirus, which concluded that the coronavirus variants currently spread around the world are detected in a period not exceeding one week.
This is a period sufficient to detect cases of the virus among people coming from abroad.
Rabhi also said the level of immunity reached in European countries confirms a decline in the danger of spreading the coronavirus in Tunisia through air, maritime and land traffic.
