Coronavirus: epidemic situation “very critical” in governorate of Kasserine

The coronavirus-related death toll in the governorate of Kasserine has risen to 550 deaths until Monday, June 21, including 69 deaths recorded over the past 14 days, local director of primary health Moncef Mhamdi told TAP.
During the same period, 1,288 more COVID-19 cases have been detected, bringing to 15,302 the total number of positive cases in the region since the spread of the pandemic.
Mhamdi said “the epidemic situation in the governorate of Kasserine is very critical,” noting that the delegation of Majel Bel Abbes has reached an average of 560 infections per 100 thousand inhabitants while this rate stood at 400 positive cases per 100 inhabitants in Hassi El Frid, which required imposing full lockdown in these two delegations from Monday, June 21 until Sunday, June 27.
A full lockdown has also been declared in North Kasserine, South Kasserine and Ezzouhour where the prevalence of COVID-19 cases has exceeded 400 per 100,000 inhabitants.
The official said the occupancy rate of oxygen beds in the 6 local hospitals and the regional hospital in Kasserine varies between 80% and 100% while the resuscitation department in this hospital has reached saturation.
