Council of Ministers Evaluates Economic Draft Organic Laws

Tunis: The Council of Ministers, led by Prime Minister Sara Zaafrani Zenzri in place of President Kais Saied, examined three draft organic laws on Thursday. These laws pertain to the ratification of amendments to key international agreements affecting Tunisia's economic landscape. According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, the draft organic laws include the ratification of amendments to the Euro-Mediterranean Regional Convention on Preferential Rules of Origin, the amendment to Protocol (B) of the Free Trade Agreement between Tunisia and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), and the amendment to the Euro-Mediterranean Association Agreement. These initiatives align with Tunisia's commitment to fulfilling international obligations and reinforcing economic progress. The Euro-Mediterranean region is strategically crucial for Tunisia, representing about 80% of its national exports due to the preferential access provided by various trade agreements. The ratification of the proposed texts aims to fortify Tuni sia's market presence and enhance the ability of local industries, such as automotive components, electrical and electronic sectors, and textiles, to integrate into global production networks. This integration is anticipated to boost export competitiveness and increase Tunisia's standing in regional and international value chains. Furthermore, the region plays a vital role in attracting foreign direct investment, facilitating technology transfer, and promoting knowledge exchange. These elements are essential for diversifying Tunisia's exports, improving product quality, and embedding the nation more firmly into the global economy. Prime Minister Zenzri emphasized the importance of coherence in government operations to ensure efficient public service delivery, accelerate public institution reforms, and ensure project completion aligns with required standards. She reiterated the government's commitment to fostering investment and creating quality employment opportunities. The Prime Minister also advocated fo r a comprehensive approach to policymaking that breaks away from outdated administrative practices. Embracing streamlined procedures and adaptable solutions at various governmental levels is crucial to fulfilling citizens' expectations and achieving the Revolution's fundamental goals of employment, freedom, and national dignity. In conclusion, the Prime Minister affirmed Tunisia's pursuit of expanding strategic international partnerships, based on mutual respect, equality, and shared interest, while remaining aligned with national sovereignty and the foreign policy vision established by President Kais Saied.
