COVID-19: France puts Tunisia on red list

French authorities decided to put Tunisia starting Sunday on the high-risk or «red list» countries due to the surge in COVID-19 infections, the French embassy in Tunis said on Saturday.

Under this decision, driven by the deterioration of the epidemiological situation in Tunisia, unvaccinated people cannot travel to France except for a number of listed compelling reasons and need to present a negative PCR test of less than 48 hours.

These passengers will have to undergo a rapid test upon arrival and start a 10-day mandatory quarantine. A €1,000 fine will be charged to passengers breaching these provisions.

The embassy also said unvaccinated people who wish to travel to Tunisia must have a compelling reason and abide by entry procedures set by the country.

Vaccinated people can travel to and from France without restrictions, the embassy said. Chinese vaccines Kornavac and Sinopharm and Russia’s Sputnik are not recognised by the European Medicines Agency, it added.
