This increase is due to the rise in the index of food products of 5.5% and that of non-food products of 2.5%, explained the HCP in an information note on the CPI for February 2022.
For non-food products, the variations range from a stagnation in “communication” to an increase of 6.0% in “Transport”.
Compared to last January, the CPI for February 2022 increased by 0.6%. This change is the result of a 1% increase in the food index and a 0.3% increase in the non-food index.
The increases in food products observed between January and February 2022 are mainly “Bread and cereals” with 2.9%, “Oils and fats” (1.5%), “Vegetables” (1%), “Fruit” (0.5%) and “Milk, cheese and eggs” (0.4%).
On the other hand, prices fell by 0.1% for “Fish and seafood”.
For non-food products, the rise was mainly reported in the prices of “Fuels” with 5.7%.
The largest increases in the CPI were recorded in Marrakech with 1.3%, Fez and Tangier with 1.1%, Oujda with 0.9%, Guelmim and Beni-Mellal with 0.8% and Kenitra, Rabat and Tetouan with 0.7%.
However, a decline was recorded in Casablanca and Errachidia with 0.1%.
