Accra: The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has raised alarms over the growing trend of inappropriate statements made by recent high school graduates on social media platforms. This concern comes as the Authority observes a surge in posts containing indecent language and alarming intentions, including comments about 'scattering' others and 'snatching people's husbands.'

According to Ghana News Agency, these statements have garnered significant public attention due to their widespread circulation. The CSA stressed the importance of understanding the long-term consequences of social media activity, reminding young individuals that online posts become a permanent part of their digital footprint. The Authority highlighted that universities, scholarship boards, and potential employers often review social media activity as part of their assessment process, which could impact one's academic and professional prospects.

Beyond reputational risks, the CSA warned that irresponsible online behavior might lead to cyberbullying, harassment, and other forms of exploitation. In severe cases, it could even violate Ghana's cybercrime laws, including the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038) and the Electronic Communications Act. Graduates were urged to practice caution and maintain respect and decency in their online interactions.

The CSA emphasized using social media as a tool for personal growth, creativity, entrepreneurship, networking, and accessing academic and professional opportunities. As Ghana advances in its digital transformation, promoting positive digital citizenship among the youth remains a priority for the CSA.

The Authority encouraged graduates to think carefully about their online posts, remain mindful of the permanence of digital activities, and steer clear of sharing content that is indecent or harmful. It also stated its commitment to work with stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education and civil society organizations, to promote safe and responsible online behavior.
