Current account deficit narrowed to 5.1 billion dinars, end of September 2021

The current account deficit has been reduced to 5.1 billion dinars (or -4.2% of GDP) at the end of September 2021, against nearly 5.8 billion dinars (or -5.3% of GDP) a year earlier, according to a Note on Economic and Monetary Developments and Medium-Term Prospects, published Friday by the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).

The trade balance widened to (-9.4 billion dinars) against (-8 billion dinars) at the end of September 2020.

Labour income (in cash), expressed in Euros, reached 1,863 million Euros – M€ (or 6,153 million dinars -MD), at the end of September 2021, up 43% compared to the same period of the previous year. On October 20, 2021, they reached 1,977 M€ (or 6,530 MD).

Excluding energy, the current account balance narrowed to (-1.8 billion dinars) or (-1.5% of GDP) at the end of the first nine months of 2021, compared with (-2.1 billion dinars) or (-2% of GDP) a year earlier.
