Current situation in Tunisia requires establishment of legal framework for fight against poverty (Trabelsi)

The current situation in Tunisia requires the establishment of a legal framework for the fight against poverty, social inclusion and the development of a comprehensive national strategy, Minister of Social Affairs Mohamed Trabelsi said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a working session held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Social Affairs on the “National Strategy for Social Integration and Poverty Reduction”, he added that the fight against poverty is a national matter and a shared responsibility.

This strategy, funded by the European Union, aims to combat poverty, particularly in priority areas, to institutionalize social intervention programmes and to create new mechanisms to fight against poverty and social integration.

During this working session, the debate focused on defining the concepts of poverty and the solidarity economy and the role to be played by the Ministry of Social Affairs.

It also made it possible to clarify the mission of the experts to prepare this national strategy to be ready by next year.

The management committee for this project is made up of several ministries, namely the Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Education, Women, Development and Vocational Training and Employment as well as academic and research institutions.
