Defence Ministry clarifies interception of two Libyan vehicles

Two vehicles with Libyan license plates carrying six individuals were intercepted on Thursday evening by a military unit deployed in the buffer zone.

The six individuals assured that they belong to the Nalut border guards in charge of protecting the public buildings and the Dhehiba/Wazen border crossing.

The Defence Ministry affirmed in a press release after co-ordination with Libyan authorities, that the Nalut border guards who had been in the three vehicles had got into a high speed chase with some smugglers on the Libyan territory, against some smugglers. One of the vehicles overturned near the Libyan-Tunisian boarder at the level of Touilet Ben Ammar (Lazret), causing the death of one of the three individuals on board. The other two were apprehended by a Tunisian military unit.

The six border guards asserted that they had crossed the border to help their wounded colleagues.

After consultation with the public prosecutor, the corpse of the border guard and the other wounded were transferred to the Remada hospital.
