Defense Minister meets with head of EU delegation in Tunisia

The European Union (EU) support to Tunisia in the field of securing land and sea borders and sustainable development in Saharan areas, were at the center of the talks held Friday in Tunis by Minister of National Defense Abdelkrim Zbidi with head of the EU Delegation in Tunisia Patrice Bergamini.

According to a ministry statement, Zbidi praised the EU’s efforts to support Tunisia in the fields of security, defense and development, noting that Tunisia is waging a war on terror and is working to secure its western and southern borders.

He added that the fight against terrorism depends on a comprehensive development approach, stressing the importance of promoting Saharan areas such as Rjim Maatoug, which has offered new development opportunities and made it possible to fix populations in their regions.

Referring to a similar project in the El Mohdeth locality Faouar delegation, Zbidi called on brother and friendly countries and the EU to support this project.

For his part, Patrice Bergamini affirmed the determination of the EU to support Tunisia in several fields including security, defense, the fight against terrorism and the defusing of mines, stating that the EU’s action in the Security field is based on the Security-Development correlation.

He added that the fight against terrorism must be based on a global vision that takes into account the economic, social, educational and cultural aspects and remains dependent on cooperation between friendly countries in all fields.

The head of the EU delegation in Tunis said he was ready to coordinate with the representatives of accredited foreign diplomatic missions in Tunis for the contribution to support the project in El Mohdeth locality.
