Democratic Movement born

A new political party “the Democratic Movement” was born, announced Wednesday the Ministry of Relations with the Constitutional Authorities, Civil Society and Human Rights.

This new party, created under the provisions of Legislative Decree No. 87 of 24 September 2011 on political parties, brings to 211 the number of political parties in Tunisia, most of which were created after 2011.

Presenting the party’s programme last November, its founder Ahmed Nejib Chebbi said it will focus mainly on education and educational reform. The slogan of the party revolves around Freedom, Equity and Excellence.

The founding committee of the Democratic Movement is composed of personalities like Mohamed Gahbiche, Walid Maaouia, Kamel Ben Hamouda, Taieb Houidi and Hamadi Maalaoui.

Veteran of Tunisian politics, who for a long time fought under the regimes of Bourguiba and Ben Ali, Chebbi left Al-Joumhouri party, that he was president, after the failure of the 2014 legislative and presidential elections.

In early 2017, he had expressed his intention to create a new party.
