President of Ennahdha and Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives (French: ARP) Rached Ghannouchi welcomed a proposed meeting with President of the Republic Kais Saied as he had a talk Tuesday with former party leader Lotfi Zitoun.
The meeting took place at the request of Lotfi Zitoun and focused on “a proposed” meeting between Ghannouchi and Saied to discuss “the difficult situation” in the country, reads a press release.
Ghannouchi welcomed the idea of an upcoming meeting with the President “out of conviction that dialogue is the only way to steer the country out of the crisis,» the same source said. «Dialogue is necessary to reach a consensus.»
President Saïed met Monday in Carthage with Lotfi Zitoun, former Ennahdha leader and ex-minister of local affairs in Elyes Fakhfakh’s cabinet.
The last meeting of President Saied with the ARP Speaker dates back to January 25 when the National Security Council was convened.
Lotfi Zitoun said in July 2019 he relinquished his position as political adviser to Ennahdha’s president, a position he held since 2014.
Zitoun resigned from Ennahdha’s Shura Council and all party’s structures in October 2020.
