Tema: Digital tax stamps are set to play a crucial role in enhancing tax compliance among industries, according to Mr. Seth Twum-Akwaboah, Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI). At the Annual General Meeting of the Tema Regional Branch of the AGI, held in Tema, Mr. Twum-Akwaboah emphasized the benefits of digital stamps over traditional methods, which he described as time-consuming and costly. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Twum-Akwaboah highlighted the inefficiencies associated with the manual process of purchasing and affixing physical stamps to goods, which burdens businesses with additional costs. He pointed out that digital tax stamps, currently in their pilot phase, have already proven to simplify compliance significantly. Companies that participated in the pilot, such as Guinness Ghana, reported substantial improvements in ease of compliance. The AGM gathered businesses from the Tema industrial area to address significant operational challenges and included a sessi on on withholding tax and tax compliance. Key activities included the presentation and acceptance of the association's financial report. Mr. Twum-Akwaboah advocated for stronger collaboration between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the business community to further enhance tax compliance, thereby boosting government revenue. Mr. Joseph Asare, Director of the GRA's Accra East Office, stated that digital tax stamps would help in identifying counterfeit tax stamps. He emphasized the importance of aligning revenue initiatives with convenience to avoid negatively impacting government revenue. He also encouraged businesses to utilize the GRA's online portals to make tax payments more convenient and efficient.
