Djerba: Ghriba pilgrimage starts

The Ghriba pilgrimage in Djerba started on Wednesday and will continue for two days. Jews and Muslims of all ages and nationalities began to flock to the Ghriba Synagogue, the second oldest Jewish place of worship in the world.

After having removed his shoes, covered his head and lit a candle, the visitor writes his wishes on a hard egg that he puts at the bottom of a cavity.

According to Perez Trabelsi, chairman of the Ghriba Committee, no less than five thousand visitors are expected this year, thanks to improved security in the country and the resumption of trust.

An important security and military device is deployed around the synagogue and around the island to ensure the smooth running of this annual meeting where high-level national and international personalities are expected.
