Draft budget of Foreign Ministry passed

The House of People’s Representatives (HPR) Friday adopted at a plenary session the 2018 draft budget of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by 138 votes to 2 with 4 abstentions.

The budget amounts to 211.324 MTD shared out between management expenses, development expenditure and supplementary budgets.

Foreign Minister KhemaAes Jhinaoui said “Tunisia’s foreign policy is based on national interests” rather than ideologies. National interests find expression in three main goals: serving youths, particularly job seekers among graduates, developing inland regions, securing the country and reinforcing its security and military capabilities.

“Tunisia sets out its positions independently and does not belong to any axis,” he said in reaction to criticism that Tunisia makes part of regional axes, such as Saudi Arabia-led coalition. Boosting Tunisia’s nascent democracy has been the credo of its diplomacy since 2011, the FM highlighted.

Additionally, the Minister underlined the importance of economic diplomacy which “has become the pillar of diplomatic action in Tunisia.” The creation soon of a secretariat of state for economic diplomacy was announced in this vein.
