Abuakwa: A 22-year-old driver's mate, Emmanuel Oteng, known by the alias 'Sika Gari', has been sentenced to four years in prison by the Abuakwa Circuit Court for breaking into a school's storeroom and stealing various items. According to Ghana News Agency, Oteng broke into the storeroom of Bantama M/A JHS and stole items including a tabletop fridge, a plastic barrel, and two metal buckets, all belonging to the school. Oteng, who pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing, was convicted on his own plea. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr. Jonas Newlove Agyei informed the court, presided over by Mrs. Philomina Ansaah Asiedu, that the complainant in the case was the Headmaster of Bantama M/A JHS, while Oteng was a resident of the same community. On October 17, the headmaster discovered the theft when he noticed the damaged window of the staff common room and found that items valued at a total of GHc 4,800.00 were missing. The prosecution stated that the complainant notified the area's Assembly Member, leading to Oteng's arrest at his hideout and subsequent handover to the Suntreso Police. Oteng confessed in his caution statement to selling the stolen items to an individual named Kofi Kombate at Suntreso, although he failed to assist in locating the alleged buyer. Following investigations, Oteng was charged and brought before the court.
