Dzodze: A 32-year-old motorbike rider, Mr. Emmanuel Akakpo of Bedzeme-Dzodze in the Ketu North Municipality, sustained a gunshot wound to his left thigh after an attempted robbery on the night of Monday, September 22.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Akakpo reported the incident at the Dzodze Police Station, stating that he had been hired by a woman from the White Dove Hotel, Dzodze, to travel to Akanu Old Road. On his return journey, near Bubune Junction close to the ECG payment office, two unidentified young men armed with a single-barrel locally manufactured gun blocked his path and demanded his motorbike.
As Mr. Akakpo attempted to speed away from the scene, the assailants fired at him, resulting in an injury to his thigh. Despite his wound, Akakpo managed to disable his unregistered Sanya motorbike using its remote-controlled lock, thwarting the attackers’ plans to abscond with the vehicle. Consequently, the suspects fled into a nearby bush.
Residents who heard his cries for help quickly arrived at the scene and transported him to the Sabu-Dav Clinic for initial medical attention. He was subsequently referred to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Dzodze for further treatment, including a scan.
The police have provided Mr. Akakpo with a medical report form for his ongoing treatment and are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the suspects. Authorities have reassured the public that concerted efforts are being made to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
